Changing the VIM-threshold requires you to set a higher threshold value to a so called adaptation channel in your MMI head unit.

It is incumbent on you to thoroughly test VCDS-Lite in shareware mode with your PC and your interface on all control modules in whatever cars you intend to use it on. Or, I’ve got a hacked ROM that’ll allow a 1999 Passat cluster to work in a 99.5 Golf/Jetta TDI, with all the fuel consumption stuff just haven’t gotten around to adding the wiring.
